Ok this is a genuine question for people that have to do video calls for work coming from someone who has NEVER done a video call in a for fun way OR a for work way:
Why does it matter how good the camera is? Does it matter? Like, what is the actual difference in like, a work meeting between these two pictures? They both look like garbage to me but the colors are different. I know for ACTUAL TAKING PICTURES it matters but why for just a Zoom work meeting?

@evie it doesnt matter as long as ppl can hear you well
@evie Tech people gonna be tech people. It doesn't fucking matter, as long as you're using something with more resolution than, say, a Connectix QuickCam from 1998 or something
Tech Person: "My webcam for the Zoom meeting has much more natural colors, and a higher resolution than your MacBook's shitty built-in webcam."
Me: "Virtual backdrop go brrrrr"
@evie I've had to in the past
So long as it's a webcam from the last decade or so it'll be fine
It's for visual "there's a person there and they're paying attention" reinforcement, you don't need 8K see every individual hair and smell what I had for breakfast this morning cameras for that
@evie@computerfairi.es this thread triggers my fight or flight response
but yes webcams are impossible to get atm and i want one to put together a streaming setup :<
