irl names, food metaphor
also I've been treating tanuki as my name since the start of 2018 and it has only made my life better. it was just a furry nick til then, but most people in my life called me by it anyway.
my real name is gendered and I've never connected with it, it's always been like a mushy bit of food stuck in my teeth.
I guess I just realized I can call myself whatever and it's cool??? it was awkward at first but
everything in my life is awkward a little bit
I'm Tanuki, hello!
cultural appropriation, naming
I've been dropping the "-san" from my usernames and using heytanuki for a while, and noticed that back when I signed up on meow\.social I used the -san
visually I love that name (no descenders! typographical bliss) but also
- it's Japanese and I'm not (young me thought a reference to the kids' rhyme was cool)
- it gets translated as Mr (it's not), & I'm done with masculinity for myself
- hey + my name is cuter
so I'm distancing myself from it
i just drew a thing! let’s make #introductions
hello i’m tanuki, i’m a tanuki. very bad at time management. soft they/them friend. trying out instances. 💖

hi my name is tanuki (they/them), i'm a tanuki. ace, diamoric, still unabashedly adoring fat people. enby af. that means nonbinary. it's a term i prefer.
building a gender out of scrap parts.
maybe you knew me before. if you have questions, just ask~
