You can just be a girl if you want. It’s okay. Or a boy, or something else, or no gender at all. You’re not too old, or too young, or too much, or not enough, or trespassing, or appropriating, or causing trouble. It’s okay. Really.
But the important thing is: do what you want, not what you think you’re allowed. Find the joy and follow that. You can experiment and you can change your mind. That’s okay too.
@jpwhiting promised i'd give you a poke when i knew something more - consider yourself poked! ;)

So, little story. Years ago, I was stuck in a low. Just a big slump in confidence and self-image. Then one day I found this tiny notebook on sale somewhere. This was back when I lived in Tokyo, and I was out with some friends somewhere. I thought it was adorable and it was only a couple of hundred yen so I thought, why not? Tiny cute things make me happy.
The little Chinese coin, I added later It just seemed to fit. But I wasn't quite sure what to do with it at first. Then I had an idea.
I've been reading and thinking a lot about what's been happening on #mastodon around questions and issues of #racism, #moderation, #contentwarnings, etc. I have a few thoughts.
First, I'm old. I mean OLD. My first internet experiences were as an adult academic in the mid-late 80s. As a Black person (and at the time, a woman) it was not unusual to be met with micro-agressions, harassment, and incredulity when I was online.
Thus, I have never expected, nor found, truly safe space online. 1/
📈 Donations through Liberapay have jumped up a bit this week, as hundreds of you have started financially supporting the Mastodon and other Fediverse instances you have accounts on. As a result, we've reached new all-time highs: the number of accounts actively giving or receiving money through Liberapay has crossed the 10k threshold, and the weekly sum of active donations has risen above €15k.
I propose mastodon servers should instead be called 'neighborhoods'
you can pick a cul-de-sac, or one near a bunch of bars & nightlife with a lot of character, or something in the countryside, or a giant condo complex. benefits and drawbacks.
and you can move, and when you do, your address gets automatically updated in everyone's Rolodex.
thx to @emilyriederer ! whose tweet made this thought click for me—even if they don't change the name, I feel like I get it now.
I can't believe my album has been out for an entire year already! :0
I released it on #BandcampFriday in November 2021, and it's been my best selling album and it's not even close!
Thank you so much <3

That's right, new, better blinds! I decided to switch it up and accept commissions similar to my previously offered blind commissions, but in this case you can give actual art direction, pick a pose, etc. G to NSFW content is accepted, and I'll draw almost anything! (no robots/machinery sorry!)
We made it! We reached our primary fundraising goal in a month! 🎉🎉

but what does this say about people who are putting rust in their butt
RT @fasterthanlime@twitter.com
Some people are accusing Rust of being a SJW trojan horse, and I thought I should clarify things a bit.
They're absolutely right. It's too late now — anyone using Linux is gay. Android too. Your internet router probably. That means me too. Speaking of... what's your number?

This Friday, i'm heading off to attend @kde@mastodon.technology Akademy 2022 down in lovely Barcelona - after two years of (otherwise excellent) online versions, it will be good to see people in person again! :D (if you can't make it in person, it also runs online - check https://akademy.kde.org/2022 for details, and register for online attendance)
Renting, England
I received this email from the Acorn tenants' union, it's relevant for renters in England:
"The government is running a consultation about introducing a decent homes standard for the private rented sector in England!
Bringing in this standard will improve conditions for millions of households, and will mean that landlords [...] have to make their properties safe, [...] free from disrepair, have reasonable facilities and be a comfortable temperature."
‘Degrowth’ is a term that is increasingly mobilized by scholars and activists to criticize the hegemony of growth – and a proposal for a radical reorganization of society that leads to a drastic reduction in the use of energy and resources and that is deemed necessary, desirable, and possible. Degrowth starts from the fact – demonstrated by an increasing number of studies – that further economic growth in industrialized countries is unsustainable.
