Today #CERN released its #KiCad component library to the public.
They are licensed CERN-OHL-P-2.0
Thank you OSPO ❤️ for getting this done.

Originally the library is made in Altium and will also be maintained in Altium. The repo only contains files that have been automatically converted.

It is a database library which contains only fully specified parts. There are lots of weird connectors. Have fun exploring.

Seems the arctic fox spree has ended. Oh well. The bot software seems to develop a personality. :neofoxnervous:

And speaking of that one. If you are curious what runs it or if you want to create your own posting bot, we made it available at https://codeberg.org/rengyr/vulpes-porto

The thing that kills me about all this is that after years of building up kind/human/caring community around me, ppl I appreciated because of those traits suddenly drop all semblance of caring about them because.... they have the perception of coding a bit better/faster. That's all it took.

I'll say it straight: you can't voluntarily and willingly use LLMs in a way that's aligned with respect for marginalized folks, with respect for the environment, with respect for labor issues and rights, with respect for art, and with respect for the community aspects of things like open source.

It is simply impossible. Pretending you can is the deepest form of cognitive dissonance and I'm just beyond disturbed to see it happening all around me.

I've already unfollowed so many folks I once respected, blocked some others, and just generally withdrawn from a community that used to be so personally fulfilling to be a part of. It's really sad.

Given Pink News are replacing their journalists with AI and platforming UK transphobe Wes Streeting, it is probably time to block their accounts and stop boosting or sharing their articles / links - in case you (still) hadn't got the message yet?

"Technology is neutral," you say?

Counterexample: Ageless Linux.

It shines a glaring spotlight on other OSs and their acceptance of bad age verification law, enacted under a pretense of child safety. In fact, these laws normalize privacy-violation and consolidate power in corporate entities without protecting children.

Other OSs comply, but Ageless Linux is a brilliant example of the potential for civil disobedience via technology.

This page alone speaks volumes: agelesslinux.org/map.html

The LLM discourse on the Fediverse has really irked me the last few days.

Refusing to read writing made with the use of LLMs and refusing to give time to writers who use, promote or justify the use of LLMs is not purity culture, it's a boycott. It's a political act of withdrawing my time, resources and support for something that I find deeply morally wrong. It's protest. I have a choice and I refuse.

LLMs are exploitative, destructive, biased, mediocre parroting machines. Using them has a negative impact on the climate, the arts, the quality of the internet, the job market, the economy, the accessibility of electronics, even on skill development, creativity and mental health. LLMs are made and trained on the unpaid labour of millions -if not billions- of people who didn't consent. Their generic output litter the path to finding anything by true human creators.

Wherever I can, for as long as I can, I reject LLMs and anything that is related to them. I'm boycotting.

I want you to spread the word that Tim O'Reilly of O'Reilly Media is forcing his editors to "use" Gen AI as much as possible. The book I wrote for them, Hacker Culture: A to Z, is probably the last non-tech manual they ever published that isn't tainted by Gen AI.

I quit my goddamn fucking professor position at OPIT because I would rather risk my ability to pay my rent than subject my students to Gen AI "e proctoring."

Please check out stopgenai.com, I beg of you.

Question for the Fedi: Is it possible to follow an RSS feed from a blog or website here on Mastodon?

For example: I want to see posts from a particular subreddit in my Mastodon feed. Reddit isn't Fedi, but every sub is an RSS feed. I'd want to see every new post from a subreddit as an item in my Mastodon feed. Is this possible?

Please Boost this post so it can get as many eyes on it as possible so I can get an answer. Thank you!

Game Jam for Free Software Desktop Games

tsdgeos.blogspot.com/2026/01/game-jam-for-free-software-desktop-games.html

The folks at GNU/Linux València are organizing a Game Jam focused on Free Software Desktop Games.  You can see the details here: https://itch.io/jam/lliurejam  Maybe we could take the opportunity to try to revive a bit the very very very dormant KDE Games…
