so i want a new monitor which i would use with 3 computers: my personal laptop, my work laptop, and my old desktop (which i want to replace at some point)
the one i'm considering has 1x hdmi and 1x displayport, the laptops would use hdmi as they only support dp over usbc and i want to keep those ports free

ideally this would mean the desktop stays connected to the other port but it doesn't HAVE dp so i'm now considering buying a new graphics card for a machine i'm trying to retire :bunhdthink:

i suppose the comedy option would be to buy an absolute top end banger gpu and install it into this otherwise potato machine and then it can be transplanted into the new desktop whenever i get around to building that

... but i don't want to spend that kind of money rn so it'd prob end up being the absolute cheapest one with DP

and please forgive me for using the abbreviation DP i don't have room to type out displayport every time. I KNOW what you perverts are thinking though. Deluxe Paint

I bought one and the PC doesn't fucking boot with it installed πŸ™ƒβ€‹πŸ™ƒβ€‹πŸ™ƒβ€‹:blobupsidedown:β€‹πŸ™ƒβ€‹πŸ’₯:trash:

I still have this card sitting here and there's not much I can do with it. The seller says they tested it, I don't have any way to prove it's not just incompatible with the 12 yr old motherboard i'm trying to use it in

But also my recent developments in GB dumping stuff have accelerated my timeline for retiring the old pc since i'm no longer reliant on its onboard parallel port so I'm not particularly bothered about giving it displayport anymore

So in the end I just wasted 50 quid
