ok so i'm trying to work out safe storage for my handhelds with li-ion 🦁 batteries & i don't really know what i'm doing, is this correct?
- a battery stored outside of a device is basically fine
- a battery connected to a device may be damaged by over-discharge from low level drain over time & swell up but it's not a fire risk if you don't try to charge it?
and for devices with unremovable batteries is it better to give them a charge every so often to keep them in good condition?
@lion li-ion batteries are full at about 4.2v, the closest you can store them at nominal 3.7v the better
@lion batteries with built in protection or BMS will have a larger parasitical self-discharge
@mavica_again i see i see, thats very useful to know thank you
@lion I am hardly an expert, but that all lines up with my general knowledge on the subject.
@lion the only guideline i would add is that 50-70% charge is best shelf storage rather than full or empty, and that self-discharge is still a thing to watch out for
