"ear pointiness" is an independent genetic trait in my fantasy world
like you have standard round, relatively flat-to-the-head type ears, there's pointy ears, and then there's the /super long/ pointy type (like yk elves in some anime and stuff)
the pointy types have higher spatial sensitivity, but can only read fine pitch from the front
and the really long pointy types are also super-sensitive
like both to sound and to, uh.. touch

there's totally not a character who reacts like a puppy when you scritch his ears, nope
