i have way more like unstructured time than most ppl so, for me, instant messages/DMs are like emails?

like, you send one, and then at some point someone might get it and read it, and eventually they might reply

i don’t rlly know how to respond when ppl say like “i can’t talk now” bc like, the assumption is that i want them to drop what they’re doing and respond before they necessarily want to

but i kinna just expect them to answer if/when they wanna

i guess it’s a culture disconnect bc like, when i used to work, ppl were constantly popping their head into my life expecting instant responses

i generally lament the normalisation of a telephone etiquette where you just phone someone whenever you want, and if they don’t answer they’d better have a good reason

if i realise someone would feel like that about instant messages too, i generally find it hard to send them at all ? but. it’s not their fault
