neologisms, potentially offensive 

So yesterday someone on Twitter told me "thot" was an acronym for "that ho over there," and therefore a sexist slur.

I was under the impression is was a playful respelling of "thought", referring to unwanted/intrusive thoughts (why else would it correlate with "begone"?).

But I never used it bc I want sure, and if that first one is the consensus meaning, I'm glad I haven't.

So, I said that, then yesterday on twitter saw it used as a slur in a quoted tweet. So, dang. I wouldn't have understood it at all without this thread...
