I've been meaning to try out Immersive Engineering for a while now – it's one of the major mods that I've NEVER played, but it seems like my kind of thing.
And I managed to just happen upon this modpack: https://minecraft.curseforge.com/projects/automaton
which not only includes Immersive Engineering and a bunch of related mods, but also a quest system (which helps you figure out how to progress)

@lizardsquid if it includes crafttweaker, that's the mod that lets you change recipes

@Efi nah, I'm just going to try this modpack - according to someone who played it, most of the recipes are the same as default
