I genuinely don't understand why one of the most common questions I am asked when I say I don't want kids is "Who will take care of you when you're older?"

Like. Is that seriously a valid reason to have kids? Just to have someone to take care of you when you're old?

@SOURSTARFISH it's so messed up!
Like, imagine if you talked to a parent and they said "yeah I didn't want to have kids, I just want someone to take care of me when I'm older"

@lizardsquid Exactly! And let's be honest with ourselves. Even people who /want/ kids aren't having them rn because to financially support a child in this economy is like constantly walking on broken glass.

@SOURSTARFISH for real, I've got a well paying job and I'm struggling to even set aside money for emergencies, I can't imagine even thinking of having a child

@SOURSTARFISH (although I do know some people who've had children recently and are really happy they did!)
