it's so otherworldly watching white authors complain about how they can't get an agent, they can't get published and then you ask them about their book and it's like, the most orientalist thing you've ever heard in your life lmfao

ok aside from the fact that over 70% of books published in the US over the past like 30 years were by white authors, what is your book about

these are literally stories i've watched white, non-jewish women pitch:
- romeo and juliet but with israel and palestine
- angry black woman who's a detective and can't find love
- beautiful white woman abducted into a harem of desert men
- white girl in feudal japan becomes the best samurai in history
- jewish-nazi romance set during the holocaust
not even joking. and it never occurred to them that maybe their book is the problem 😭
and if you're like, "hey maybe you shouldn't try to publish this and make money off of it bc it's kinda racist and you know, not your lane"
they immediately are like, "well how come i can write a book about a talking monkey and it's okay but if i write about a racial slur SUDDENLY IT'S PROBLEMATIC MY LANE IS THE HUMAN RACE"
