@melissasage that's actually part of why I stick to stuff that's 100% publicly accessible - it means I'm always aware that lots of people can see what I'm saying, rather than the impression you get from facebook or tinder where it feels like only a few can see you

@lizardsquid that's an interesting thought, but do you never ever text? Or use discord or slack or Skype or irc?

There definitely is a like, privacy hygiene element to it, don't get me wrong, but there's also the huge disparity between what the lay user expects of their data vs how it's actually used, and the tinder example is particularly egregious

@melissasage oh, I do use discord and telegram as well, but afaik they just store what you say, they don't store your half-written messages that you erased (fb does that) or your location, and such...

I guess it's still an illusion of privacy, rather than actual proper privacy
