@claire the whole seperation of people's politics from how they are in person is horrifying to me - I once lived with a guy who described his step-dad as "a trump supporting guy who often says racist stuff and gets angry and yells a lot, but he's nice" and I just... couldn't understand how he could defend someone like that, as if occasional "niceness" made up for the racism and the anger and the hate and violence
