wow ok, I've been looking at
https://www.nearlyfreespeech.net/
and it seems actually really good? Anyone here have much experience with them?
@jamey why'd you switch to a dedicated server?
@lizardsquid I had a VPS and the NearlyFreeSpeech account and was using Blogger, and my partner has a couple shared hosting accounts, and I wanted to bring all those and any other neat web-apps I came across together into a Heroku-style thing but that I can control. A server at Hetzner costs less than all the other things I had put together and I get 3TB of disk, 8x 3.4GHz cores, 32GB RAM, and lots of bandwidth. Only downside is that latency to Germany is kinda high for me from western US.
@lizardsquid I've been using them for years, mostly for hosting simple, low-bandwidth static sites and domain registration, and I've been pretty happy with them; they have very transparent operating procedures and the costs are super low for my usage at the moment. i run ssl through letsencrypt there.
@lizardsquid I used them for my mom's WordPress blog for a long time. I only stopped because I finally bought a dedicated server. I like them. Got more specific questions?
