college is a fucking scam and I hate how hard it's been pushed on our generation

@witchfynder_finder this is it entirely - in Australia, just as I was leaving high school, the government was destroying all the funding for alternative non-uni education, so I really didn't have any choice...
of course, they're now regretting it, because there's now not enough people who are qualified to do important jobs that are needed to run society
@witchfynder_finder we had that cultural thing as well - throughout my entire time in high school, there were so many jokes about people going to trade schools instead of the "proper" thing.
@lizardsquid Now the people who DID go to trade school are making BANK and laughing at everyone who went to college =P
@lizardsquid Yeah, it's a bit different here in the states. There are still lots of trade schools and opportunities for labour-based jobs, but everything that isn't uni gets SO LOOKED DOWN ON that no one even considers becoming a welder or an electrician or a house painter or whatever. They think going to college and learning to code and getting a Comms degree will land them a cushy job somewhere not realizing they are one of THOUSANDS. We've been fucked over and are just now realizing it.
