Sometimes I remember that Avatar was a movie we all went to see and it had literally 0 staying power in our cultural Zeitgeist and that's...so weird to me.

It was an Event for one summer and now nobody talks about it at all except to sometimes make this same observation and that's fuckin wild, man.

@lizardsquid I saw it in IMAX 3D (still the only way to see it IMO) and I thought it was this beautiful masterpiece.

I saw it a few months later at home on DVD (not even Blu-Ray!!) with my parents and they were disappointed. They said there was no substance. "You don't understand!" I said to them. "You weren't at the theater!" And that's when I realized it wasn't actually a good movie, but it was a damn good experience.
