Any Linux desktop devs I could, at least hypothetically, pay to write open-source software to my design specs?
I'm at least half serious. I'm good at writing design specs. I have a small but steady budget, and I *need* certain pieces of software.
Debugging takes focus-time, though, and I have maybe a handful of hours per week, and I still haven't established a healthy working relationship with a desktop dev environment.
@woozle I kinda... would really like to do this
but I've never finished any project, so I don't know how good it would be
(and also I haven't made gui apps for a *long* time)
@lizardsquid If you get to the point where you think you could meaningfully tackle a small project, let me know. I could probably find something relatively trivial on my mental list.
Would it be easier to modify an existing app? Or do you work better starting from scratch, do you think?
@woozle perhaps working for someone else would make it easier for me to actually finish a project, though?
if you come up with something small, how about I try and do it for free, see if I can actually do it without you having to worry about finances?
and then if I can, I can do future work for pay?
@lizardsquid We could do it like this:
1. I'll write up a spec (something simple).
2. You see if you can write it. Keep track of your time, or have a money-figure in mind that would take care of the time-cost to you. Let me know how it's going.
3. If you finish it (or at least get to a point where it seems workable to me), I'll pay you what I can up front and do the rest in installments (and maybe try to get some crowdfunding help).
We should probably talk a little about $ #s first, tho.
@woozle that sounds like a really good idea...
if I can actually start doing freelance dev work, that would be great - and this seems like a good place to start
