Doctor Who
I'm making a guide of which episodes of Dr Who to watch. While I'm making a fully detailed guide, I've seen the first 4 stories of the classic series and here are my thoughts so far:
[ An Unearthly Child ] – Watch the first episode! Then skip the rest because they're dull
[ The Daleks ] – Worth a watch if you're patient, but otherwise it's very slow paced
(cont)
Doctor Who
[ The Edge of Destruction ] - Watch it! Short and tense, and one of my favourites
[ Marco Polo ] - All the episodes are missing, but if you're willing to watch regardless, go ahead!
(To explain for those who don't know: many of the earlier episodes were completely destroyed, however fans at home recorded the audio and took photos of the screen, so reconstructions which use still images have been made)
Doctor Who
@woozle I think at the time, people weren't expected to sit in front of the television and watch the show continuously, they were expected to do other tasks while watching
fiction on tv was still a relatively new concept
Doctor Who
@lizardsquid Well, I gather that before TV, sitting around the radio to listen to shows was a thing. So sitting around the TV would seem to follow naturally.
This seems like an interesting question to ask people older than me, though, when opportunity arises ^.^
Doctor Who
@woozle yes, that would definitely be a question to ask, rather than just assume like a doofus ::P
Doctor Who
@lizardsquid I find it interesting that we have that reaction -- like, the pace of life has just accelerated to the point where waiting so long between events in a drama can feel intolerable.
I think this says something interesting about how life must have been back then -- like, it must have felt a lot more relaxed, at least temporally.
