@minego I'm guessing most of us thought about this one the same way.

Hey, I'm seeing a lot of politics/advocacy posts that don't have content warnings. I'd like to boost those, but I don't want to do it without a CW.

We made up a pronoun set for "exclusive we" (any use of "we" that does not include the reader/listener), it's wex/xus/xur/xurs/xurselves. It can be used by systems or singlets, in any situation to make clear the listener is not included.

We suppose a corresponding "inclusive we" set should be made to make it clear the listener is included, so for that we propose: wein/nus/nur/nurs/nurselves.

@Sophie If there are biases in a "random" system that you're not aware of, they can still affect you. Although the closest thing I can think of to an example is the bias in the "browser ballot" shuffle algorithm.

@sota767 Same, I just hadn't appreciated how it's not what a lot of Twitter refugees are looking for.

mastodon

I have finally had this explained to me forcefully enough for it to get through, I think: some people *need* reach, mastodon is intentionally designed against getting reach, and I actively prefer it that way. There's a clear difference in what we're looking for that means artists aren't as likely to want to set up shop here.

I'll pretty much follow anyone wherever though, as long as it doesn't require me to have an account on an actively terrible service, and I can use a web browser.

It's slowly dawning on me that when people say "I am ADHD", instead of being annoyed at the grammatical implications of that, I should be following their lead on how they want to describe themselves.

plurality (~)

Being me is exhausting, no wonder I'm not the main host. -Watchful

plurality(+)

Being able to intentionally switch in order to get a somewhat different perspective is really cool and useful.

Economics: Humans only value things monetarily.
Sociology: Uh, I don't ...
Economics: Humans are always rational and value is calculated by a complex inner calculus.
Sociology: Uh, Psy, can you help?
Psychology: That's not how humans ...
Economics: ALSO MY SYSTEM WILL GROW EXPONENTIALLY FOREVER!!
Physics: *drops teacup*

@minego I used to, but it could have changed since then, so I have appropriately answered "Nope".

I once had a Palm Pilot game where you would draw lines in the "handwriting area", and those lines would extend into the actual screen. Baddies would come down from the top of the screen, and you'd have to hit them before they get to the bottom.

I would like to find it again. Does anyone know what it was called?

nonstandard gender

*checking gender census to see how many other slimes there are*

Any moment now, as Christmas and (American) Thanksgiving get closer, people will start posting suggestions of things to donate to food banks and 'Reverse Advent Calendars'.

I can't stress this enough:
Just. Give. Money.

Food banks can usually get more bang for their buck than you can.
They'll probably be able to give you a tax receipt for money, but not for cans.
And it lets them buy, store, and distribute food in the volumes they need and can handle.

(Please boost to make sure people get the message.)

@recursive I didn't hate Twitter, but I do feel like it's better here. (Or, Mastodon has something Twitter lost a long time ago. The best way I've been able to put it: For-profit platforms want us to spend more time there, so they come up with algorithms that show us things that are entertaining but not satisfying. Losing that made the experience satisfying again.)

@minego It's only going to get more difficult the longer you put it off.

@minego If you stop eating, it can be very hard to start again, so I would generally say yes.
