Random reminder that a lot of the communication "competency" attributed to neurotypical people comes down to privilege: meeting-first cultures, in-office/anti-WFH cultures, dining areas built as wide-open spaces, even the filling of cities with noisy cars instead of trees, etc.

It's everyone else's priorities that are out of whack. Mine are completely gay.

It's amusing to me that star trek imagined a world where an AI faces social rejection because he's rational, fact based, literal, fiercely/dogmatically moral, and struggles with social nuance. But here in reality we invented AIs that have no concept of truth, give zero fucks about accuracy, have no rationality, and can't do math, but match vibes and tone nearly perfectly.

The first artificial person will not be an autistic science officer. It'll be an extremely allistic salesbro or politician.

re: plurality, sysmeds

@mavica_again we've seen the validity of non-traumagenic systems explained as something that helps traumagenic systems too. it allows for exploring the possibility without dismissing it due to not knowing about their trauma, or trying to examine trauma they're not ready for (if the brain hides something from itself, it's probably for a reason)

plurality, sysmeds

Stirring up shit by saying "non-traumagenic systems exist" in spaces not about plurality. It's mind-boggling how much this upsets some people.

I typo github as githug so often that I think they should just change their name.

religion, shitpost

The Catholic God is plural.

If there's one thing working with software has taught me, it's that it never works the way I think it does, even if I designed and built the whole thing myself.

your feelings are valid!!! your syntax unfortunately is not

Them: You said you were interesting!

Me: I said I was into resting!

I feel like public mastodon polls are going to start to be exploited at some point and then we won't be able to use them.

This is for non-trans people only!

Do you think it is #transphobic to not want to date trans people?

There is an accompanying poll for trans people in the replies.

Please #boost so that I can have a larger sample size than I might otherwise get.

Boost the other poll too if you can.

#poll

#Trans friends, I was thinking about our diverse stories, and found myself wondering about the age you knew you were trans (whether you had language to describe it or not)?

I didn't know until my late 40s. Earlier, I knew I was different, but not really in what way.

When did you know?

Please boost for reach, let's get a big sample size!

autism/disability

@actuallyautistic So I'm trying to come to terms with this. I think because I'm above water, I can work and take care of myself without regularly needing extra help (or rather, without needing extra help that I can't pay for), I don't feel like I deserve to say that. But I don't know how else to reconcile the fact that I can't afford to do things like protest or lobby or plant pollenizers. So I have to be able to say, I can't do those things because I have a disability, right?

autism/disability

Why is it so much easier for me to say

"I barely have the time and energy to work a part-time job and take care of myself. I don't understand how people can do things like work a full-time job and take care of a home and a car and kids. It all seems completely impossible to me."

than

"I have a disability."

@actuallyautistic

We've been bad at visualization for as long as we can remember, but we seem to finally be making progress. Being able to summon bright colors and simple shapes internally is such a joyous experience.
