what exactly does it take for people to understand that my name is properly spelled all lowercase. because whatever it is i'm not doing it enough. capital m Mavica is the Sony camera, not me

this is not really a subtoot of anyone in particular because it keeps happening so much. like people assuming i'm either a guy or non-binary because i use it/its as my secondary pronouns (the primary are byte/byteself, which nobody ever uses)

@mavica_again

I think what it's going to take is using capital letters in your toots.

Hear me out here: when people see a toot with no capital letters at all, they will assume that's part of your writing style (which is fine) but when they then go on to write to or about you they will use their own writing style (which does use capitals) and they might not realise that the lack of a capital on your name is part of the name, rather than just part of how you write.

@The4thCircle i get what you mean but also i'm not going to change my voice and the people making these mistakes the most aren't even on the fediverse so they just know me by a thing i made that went viral and are posting about it elsewhere

@mavica_again

I don't expect you to change your writing style, nor would I ask you to, but you asked what it would take.

@The4thCircle the gripe here is that i can hardly get people to care about the things i make let alone care beyond that and every time i have tried to have "my own voice" i'm scolded and told i'm doing it wrong, or being abusive and aggressive, or worse

i think at this point i'm just doomed to never be respected
