it's hard to fear pushing people away by being brash in public when there's really nobody left i would be pushing away with it

yeah i got a lot to work through, and this is what that looks like!! you're lookin at it!! it ain't pretty

@Stinkie i should go back to demanding people talk to me at least then i got a lot of attention by being called out for being an abuser, it sure beat the silence!!

i kind of almost miss the abuse i used to constantly get because at least it was better than the silence i get now

bold of you to assume i live in an echo chamber when literally nobody reads or replies to anything i post. if anything it's an anechoic chamber

i'm not going to say that forcing myself to either post or work on every single day has single-handedly restored my joie de vivre but it's been 3 days and i feel like an entire dark cloud has cleared above my circuits

31 years ago was a sad day. It was the day Commodore declared bankruptcy. What went wrong for Commodore? It's simple. And it's complicated. And mostly Irving Gould's fault. #Retrocomputing dfarq.homeip.net/why-commodore

Maybe it's a little cliche but somehow creating games feel like the ultimate escape from reality for a bit

The only limit is your imagination and there is no one who can set rules or decide whatever you can do or not

If people don't like they simply don't have to play it

It's just enormous fun creating such worlds and giving it away for free makes it the ultimate f-you against modern day gaming studios who are only in it for the money

The Fosstodon situation is exhibit number one million in how not to respond to community concerns. Like, a lot of people think you can just run an online community.

You can't.

Community management is a real job that requires a real and rare skill set, and odds are you do not have the skills necessary to effectively run an online community. I've worked with community managers. A good CM makes all the difference.

If you run a large instance, then hire a professional CM, for pete's sake.

@ariadne "It's not a Nazi bar because the Nazi left for the night after having a few drinks."

and while i am generally not in the business of telling other admins how to run their instances, dare i say it the only acceptable response to "hey, you have a fascist mod on your staff" is to immediately fire that mod and then do a retrospective to figure out how that happened.

i am glad that the MAGA-supporting fascist fosstodon mod was removed.

i am less glad that the fascist removed himself rather than the admins of the instance having a backbone and firing him.

shit like this is why we are backsliding into authoritarianism and plutocracy around the globe.

as a free software community, we are actually one of the first lines of defense against fascism: we are protecting one of the largest commons on the planet from misappropriation. this reality must be reflected in our values, and the implementation of our values.

Last few days, people I follow rehashed a common theme in our spheres: the idea trans women's experiences with "male socialization" shapes them.

Dog whistle alert: nowadays, you're more likely to hear this expression from bigots than from trans people.

One person’s “drama” is another person’s entire life struggle. Pay close attention to the language that people use to minimize and otherize.

“If you don’t know what to say, then just say this: ‘Thanks for bringing this to my attention. This is a very serious concern, and it deserves to be treated seriously. I’m going to look into this, and I will respond soon.’ There, was that so hard? You didn’t admit to anything, and you didn’t have to sell your soul to the woke mob.”
