let's say i turned a device that most definitely should not be used as a game boy, into a game boy

i managed to learn about the linux framebuffer and built a neat port to an embedded device i shouldn't talk about in public

Working from home exposed that the things people actually liked about their office work--having places to go, spending time with other people or out in the world, having structure and routine--actually have nothing to do with the tasks of work itself.

"...While there is *no* empirical evidence to indicate that transgender people pose any kind of threat to cisgender people in public bathrooms, the reverse is not true. That is to say, transgender people are routinely harassed and even assaulted by cis people in such settings." twitter.com/JuliaSerano/status

This thread is important reading. The BBC found a non-story & approached high profile trans ppl who wisely declined as they hadn't heard of it

It's not unknown for them to try the same with less experienced activists, to set them up for an on-air fall. Don't let that be you. twitter.com/HelenCBelcher/stat

it's so funny to me how humans as a species evolved to invent the popcorn, the microwave, the microwavable popcorn, and finally the popcorn button in microwaves, so that microwavable popcorn manufactures have to print on their packaging telling you not to use it

the english-speaking world is throwing me for a loop telling me that today is father's day making me panic when it's not until august

I pretty strongly disagree with the premise here. When people say Open Hardware Community they're almost exclusively referring to the Anglosphere and the hardware community that is structured around the typical needs and constraints of Western, English-speaking countries. twitter.com/MakerTobey/status/

petition to officially rename "the video game crash of 1983” to "the couple of years where retail stores in the US only couldn't push home video games but everything else was the same in 1983”

RT @maplesbian@twitter.com

@comet_melting@twitter.com and even then Atari walked away from it mostly fine with arcade and computer divisions so honestly it's more like retail crash

sure there's nuance in that it's more than sales figures that make or break a game but sales figures are real numbers that you can't rewrite with your "top 10 games of the 90s!!" thinkpiece

if those lists were written in brazil winning eleven would be way above castlevania

Show thread

but anyway everybody talks about the video game crash like it was a real thing because most youtubers are from the USA and they're indeed rewriting history as pointed out in that thread everyone is having fun clowning on because "buhh banjo kazooie better than croc"

for disclaimer purposes the above tweet is mostly sarcasm out of spite for unitedstatians
