@lexbailey you are not likely to be eaten by a grue
@lamb i grew up decades ago with a master system and phantasy star was one of the games we had for it. it holds a very special place in my circuits
You should play Phantasy Star.
I'm in the process of playing PS1 in the form of a quality-of-life improvement ROM hack and am having a (mostly) enjoyable time! The JRPG battles are pretty simple, the story is interesting, and the music is pretty good!
I'm looking forward to trying Phantasy Star 2 through 4!!

I had a silly idea months ago and finally made a design. Enjoy! 🌈🤣 #WokeOnLAN
@shac @cabel from my experience with embedded systems like these (card machines in my case, specifically), the display is in a controller of its own with no type of buffer at all. the microcontroller tells it to draw shapes and it just spits it out to the display because neither the display nor the controller have enough RAM to keep a screen buffer, so you see it all drawn in real time.
as for the weird order, a sideways orientation like you said is usually the case
The problem isn’t that the fediverse isn’t viable. The problem isn’t that it’s “too complicated.” The problem is that the giants of Silicon Valley have spent 20 years convincing us that anything outside their control isn’t worth our time.
I have been saying this for at least a decade and I shall scream it into the void for at least a decade to come but:
the over-simplification of technical jargon, interfaces, and capabilities of end-user software and hardware have been a disaster for tech literacy of the 'general population' and have aided the creation of walled gardens more than the lack of open alternatives.

@avavsystems @obsoletemediauk the font choice makes them look like atari 2600 cartridges

@NanoRaptor you joke but there is actually a latex document with this as its cover in our documents
as for most of its content, it can probably be best summarized as "aftercare"
text rendering i like:
- printed text on non-glossy paper. the ink expands in a nice way. bold and comfy
- mac os
- windows before cleartype, displayed on a low-ish resolution monitor (let's say 9x on a 800x600 or 1024x768). no antialiasing. raster fonts. visible pixels. simultaneously chunky and precise. any blurriness you saw was on the rightmost side of the glyph, and was caused by inadequate shielding in your vga cable
