I just want a damn system tray, it worked fine in 18.04 why did you break it in 20.04

Show thread

lol the contempt in this thread is exactly the problem i find with linux desktops and this has never, ever been solved to this day ubuntu-mate.community/t/do-gno

Show thread

why the HELL did package ubuntu-mate-desktop change my FIREFOX HOME PAGE

Show thread

i still don't have a working systray by the way so unless i use the terminal i literally can't change network settings

linux will never be a desktop operating system

Show thread

oh my fucking god most of my broken packages are because ubuntu refused to upgrade *libsane-common* because i had a git version installed

Show thread

at least it booted again? and the dist-upgrade finished? boy this is a mess

Show thread

how do you fix anything on a linux system when you can't access the terminal and every solution to a linux problem is a terminal command lmao

linux is never going to be a desktop operating system

Show thread

every google result for a broken lightdm restarting suggests you to go to one of the ttys using ctrl-alt-f# but you can't access the ttys if lightdm keeps restarting and therefore stealing the screen away from tty

Show thread

it didn't

it's looping between trying to start x and crashing x and i can't even ctrl-alt to a terminal

i broke my art computer because of compulsory updates :) and linux people complain about windows

Show thread

gonna be real fun to try to reboot this machine and guess whether it will or it won't

Show thread

pretty sure i broke stuff because ubuntu doesn't expect you to be using not bash as your shell for doing a release upgrade and there's about a hundred lines of fish errors on my terminal now because some package's post-install script tried to bash script on me

Show thread

my favourite feature of ubuntu 18.04 LTS is how it constantly hounds me to update to ubuntu 20.04 LTS and every single time i try to it tells me that i can't and then hounds me again that i should update

i want to make an isometric pixel art chatroom... it's not even that hard these days with a bit of js and websockets, is it?

oh no i'm making a new project for myself...

Show thread

"lounge" is a nice word that reminds me of early 2000s shockwave isometric pixel art chat rooms
