tired of people telling me that i'm too bright to be earning "only" 19k usd/yr and yet not being able to find anything even that "bad"

Show thread

tired of "remote, USA only" positions showing up in job posting websites when i filter for "anywhere in the world" as my location

literally trying to sell myself short here in a desperate attempt for any takers

Show thread

i've been told i deserve at least 75k USD year for doing development work much simpler than i was already doing and honestly i just want half that and it would be enough to live off it and i can't even find that. i just want the scraps of the tech sphere please

Show thread

doing the math in US measurements my previous company was paying me about 10 USD hour or roughly 19k USD yearly to do embedded C development for a financial institution and if i can get any remote job that won't immediately overstress and burn me out for that much i'm happy

story time: at my previous job maintaining and porting applications to card payment machines we were briefly tasked with working on a new hardware from a new manufacturer. they brought in two people from the company who imports them from the manufacturer to teach us the SDK

i can't (easily) find anywhere that's easy to solder which mirrors the jtag pins on the connector and cables that break out for jtag are unobtainium...

there is apparently 1 phone parts shop in EU which has the connector for making a cable but USD30 shipping on a USD3 part...

Show thread

i think the jtag vias (which would be marginally easier to solder onto) are all underneath the connector, so i would need to remove the board from the front half to access them but so far i haven't been able...

Show thread

this is what i bought the 30awg wires for and yes i did a test with my finest soldering iron tip and immediately bridged across two of the pins (shown here already removed)

Show thread

i'm trying to rescue a bricked GP2X, the ext plug gives JTAG pins but there's no way i can solder individual wires on that fine a pitch and none of those test pads seem related... suggestions?

this was brought to my attention so i'll make it a point to say this again:
Cecilia D’Anastasio is an abusive journalist who hounds her sources, places them in danger, lies to them to get what she wants, and nearly pushed survivors to suicide because of her reporting- 1/10

i am tired of self-absorbed patronising unitedstatian gringos and their continuing attitude that things that are financially easy for them must be financially easy for the third world they continue to exploit

Show thread

people who are condescending stop getting defensive when i call you condescending challenge (impossible???) (gone wrong)

this fucks me, this person literally went through the worst on this website including nazis, alt right, fucking having home address posted, family targeted, and its ANOTHER FUCKING MARGINALIZED PERSON WHO FINALLY DROVE THEM OFF twitter.com/425suzanne/status/

I'm getting spurious FreeBSD kernel panics along with the random zombie'ing of my X11 server. I ran Memtest86+ to try & find hardware-caused problems, but I know that's far from the only tool.

Any recommendations for other amd64/x64 tools I can put on a USB stick & boot into?
