nobody's stopping you from joining existing forums and webrings but yourself
everybody kinda forgot that twitter was this new scrappy website back in 2007 or so that people decided to flock to because it was so cool to have to fit your messages in only 140 characters and then forums and webrings just withered without activity
"i miss forums" "i miss webrings" meanwhile i have a forum and my website is part of two webrings? you're the ones who stopped caring about us

i learnt this the hard way after running my own instance for 4 years before being forced to leave due to a harassment campaign against me which made me lose all social contacts there so if you expect to use it professionally be on your best behaviour & live in fear of all admins
if you're moving to mastodon please just consider first that it has worse moderation than twitter and this isn't discussed enough
