Thinking about using mailto link in html form as a way to add comments to my future blog. Obfuscation of the email address aside (which would involve JS, so I need a backup solution), do people even have the right email client configured for mailto links?

@quirk I have it set up on mine but that is probably since I actually use mail

@quirk on any still-googled android phone a gmail account is mandatory so at the very least it will open a gmail

@quirk Mailto links tend to still work, I find. Firefox on Windows, it opens the OS mail program.

@rodneylives The question is if the user has a mail program that they use and that is configured for their email. Most people use webmail now-a-days and while I have seen webmail clients ask to register itself for mailto links, I'm unsure how common it is that people go though with it.

I think it would work more often on mobile. People usually have an email app that is setup. However, Firefox for Android has problems with mailto links 🙁

@quirk Ah, I don't know what happens, in my case, if a mail client isn't set up at all.
