I'm always kinda surprised that Factorio is so popular with developers, given that it's basically "technical debt, the game!"

game: this factory is technical debt in visual form. every conveyor belt is placed in such a way that made sense hours ago but now is nothing but a blight on your dreams

techie gamers: why would I play this?

game: and you get to fix it without any meetings

techie gamers: THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER MADE

I lost touch with many of my #mutualaid #diabetic friends when I left the bad site, so please boost for me.

My wife’s Opa passed away this week, leaving behind ~7 vials of #Humalog #insulin and a number of #Dexcom #G7 #CGM sensors (non-pump compatible). Everything is paid for and we don’t want it all to go to waste.

If you or someone you know could really use this stuff, please contact me at:

Last Boost: I have been trying to get my coworkers to check API response codes for *checks calendar* fifteen years now, with little success. I am tired.

oh my god ios does not have an “open with…” option. even in the file manager app you can't escape the idea that files belong to apps rather than apps being tools for working with files. yeah i think i would be driven to madness if i had to actually use this os to do things

i'm not like, married, to the desktop metaphor, there's probably an alternative vision of computing that doesn't have it and still feels like computing to me, but the fact every post-ios os is trying to emulate the windows 3.1 program manager experience is so strange

Show thread

oh fucking hell that's like actually the main reason windows 8 sucked. microsoft tried to copy apple in killing the desktop and made a mockery of themselves because apple have never tried to kill the desktop on their… desktop os, only their mobile os.

Show thread

why did steve jobs want to kill the desktop metaphor. i must understand this.

the desktop metaphor was foundational to the appeal of the macintosh. the desktop metaphor was what made windows 95 such a monumental leap over windows 3.1. the desktop metaphor is what a computer is…

the sporus can't hurt you don't worry just let it stay in your room over night i promise it won't evolve further

(ha ha i'm in danger) so i'm reading the yaml 1.2 spec

and i just do not have words for how bad this spec is

i know spec writing is hard, and this one's had a lot of work

honestly does feel you could add some of the indented stuff to json and have 90% less headaches

previously in "tef tries to learn yaml"

>>> import yaml
>>> load = yaml.safe_load
>>>

>>> load("1:60") # this is a string
'1:60'
>>> load("1:50") # but this is a number
110
>>> load("01") # this is a number
1
>>> load("0:1") # but this isn't
'0:1'
>>> load("0:1.5") # but this is
1.5
>>>
