If COVID has taught us anything, it's that people should be wearing masks in all healthcare settings, COVID or not.
In addition, if you're coughing or experiencing any other symptoms and can't stay home, please ensure you wear a mask wherever you go.
It doesn't matter if it's COVID or not, it's a matter of respect to try to do everything within your power to not expose others to whatever you may have.
I never use Caps Lock, so I disable the Caps Lock key completely with xmodmap, to avoid hitting it by accident.
Occasionally my X server gets into caps-lock state anyway. (Usually some complicated stunt was involved, like attaching x11vnc to the display remotely.) And then I can't turn it off again using the Caps Lock key.
So I wrote a tiny X client that lets me type 'xcapslock off' at a shell prompt …
… and then I had to make an alias to it, called 'XCAPSLOCK OFF'.
New #blog post wherein misreading a @foone post made me ask the question "What if we put an image in your image?"
This post was in my drafts for months, finally found a few seconds to finish it off.

I wrote a short note about Meta's toaster problem— toaster are impossible to make, digital platforms are easier. So Zuck needs a bigger more expensive moat.

In UI circles you sometimes see a (usually derogatory) label of "hover tunnel" given to a UI widget, like a clickless contextual menu, which requires you hover over an element then continue to hover over specific elements in order to keep the widget active. I would like to propose the term "Reverse Hover Tunnel" for the current YouTube front page, where you must move the mouse in strict and meticulous paths to avoid it beginning to autoplay random crap, possibly forever showing it as 10% watched
I sat across @lina’s legs and whispered in her ear:
“Babe, imagine this: You’re 14, and you invite your crush over for dinner.”
“Your family’s all upstairs. And I suddenly sit on your lap”
Her expression started to turn a little playful.
“You think you’ve just invited a friend over to hang out. You finally meet a girl who can also code, and you think tonight is just for some pair programming.”
I felt like I had her imagination hooked.
She tried not to laugh, holding it in. Then, she burst out laughing, covering her mouth.
“Was I too specific?” I asked.
She laughed even harder, pushing me away.
“The pair programming part totally ruined the mood, too funny!” #AsaCyan
one of the big changes due to HRT is how I treat myself when I see a reflection of me or a photo of me.
pre-HRT... my expressions whilst being photographed were flat, and if I caught a glimpse of myself in a shop window, or even in a mirror in the morning... it was very much "who dis?" and non-recognition.
one of my partners remarked that I appeared "dead inside"... sounds about right seeing photos from that time.
post-HRT... just caught myself in the mirror in the hotel room and I'm like, hey, how are you, looking great this morning... and I smile to myself.
it's not like I cannot see the body of a man totally masking the emerging woman, it's not like there's not dysphoria, but what there is, is a change.
where there used to be detachment... now there I see I embody that being, it's me, and I feel happier and more whole than in years, and it's just hard not to see myself and cheerlead a little... go you, you're smashing it, have a great day dee.
I really hope people on here feel the same and smile at themselves with love and kindness 💜
