I think the Wikipedia article that I've returned to the most times is the one on Shoe Size, cause it has a really useful conversion chart

We took like FORTY-FIVE MINUTES TO BEGIN TAXIING. This is objectively not so long and probably would not have seemed like so long, but it had already taken me seven hours to get from where I was staying to the point of sitting on the plane, so it felt like a long time. I'm pretty certain I am not going to be sleeping for at least the next SEVENTEEN HOURS. I really hope there are seventeen hours of AMIGA TRACKER JUNGLE MUSIC on YouTube. I think there's about that much but I've not counted

PSA: If you're reading and parsing `/proc/cpuinfo` for anything, you should probably stop.

The CPU information you're probably looking for is available in structured form in `/sys/devices/system/cpu`, no horrible text parsing required. And unlike `/proc/cpuinfo`, the `/sys` hierarchy is standardized across architectures (as much as is practical). In particular, you will not find CPU topology info in /proc/cpuinfo on non-x86 architectures.

Signed, ARM64 users who keep seeing things like "1 cpu, 1 core, 8 threads" in software written by x86 users (I'm looking at you, GeekBench).

I'm currently unemployed, mostly bedridden, and trying to find a new doctor who* is actually interested in treating me. It's a whole thing.

If you could donate a couple dollars, that'd really help me. Thanks so much.

* Not that one. A time machine is not required, though I wouldn't say no to one.

you know, this feels like a fun time to remind those of you able bodied out there, ally or not, you will be disabled eventually, unless you die very young. it might take 40 years for your hips to give out, or you might have a lifechanging accident in the next 30 minutes, but don't think you're better than me just because i've been disabled since i was a teenager. you'll know what it's like eventually. maybe start advocating for us now while you have working legs and arms and eyes

My mother’s union just secured a 40% raise and 7 weeks parental leave for its workers after walking off the job (in an illegal strike no less).

Don’t let people tell you unions aren’t worth fighting for

I should post about something else. Here’s another corvid. This time a rook that lives near me.

my favourite easy meal:

  • tagliatelle in boiling salted for water for 5min (1min less than the time to al dente on the box)
  • drain most of the water, add olive oil and minced garlic (use a garlic press), turn up heat and stir 1 min
  • take off heat, mix in grated “pizza cheese”

this is sort of a freakish variant of aglio e olio that's easier to prepare and more spicy. it's even better if you add chili flakes at the same time as the garlic

@quirk a bad idea for a new window manager: actually overlapping wm where windows are slightly transparent and the click event bubbles through the top window down to all windows below it. Now you can click on two things at once!

I just finished reading the afterword in my edition of A Wizard of Earthsea 😊

I found my love of reading again this year, and I found a way for me to take the time to read, I now read mostly when I'm on public transport, and I love it
