My partner said she didn't have any important files on her computer so I decided to go for the nuclear option. I used a (new) Fedora Linux Live USB to remove all the partitions on the ssd, then rebooted into the Windows 11 install media. And it didn't crash right after the install guide shows up!

Update! The official Wikipedia page has called it.

This is the first year for “destroyed by jackdaws” - @Nifflas you’ll have to let us know if the local betting pool has also called it or not. 🤣

“Standing with damage” is my current mood.

Also, this is way weirder and way funnier than being burned down like it usually is.

Hannah's article gets a ton of the conflict right. The solutions the city offered were largely to move the garden 5 miles away.

Additionally it's important to know that gardening groups like Black Star Farmers ALREADY built gardens in I believe 5 other locations including near some of the sites SPR now is mentioning.

The city ALSO destroyed most of those previous gardens in similar fashion.

I love the science of planetary formation, because you'll be reading about the Late Heavy Bombardment and it'll say "[this suggests] very rapid cooling, requiring only 100 million years."

Ahh yes. Very rapid. Blink of an eye! A mere 100 million years, a tenth of a billion years!

This will kill off multicellular life but it'll definitely solve the problem with atmospheric carbon

Thinking of making myself a genuine honest-to-goodness fursona.

I honestly did not expect the Windows 11 installer to BSOD when running from a USB. I'm not sure what to do now.

Show thread

The error I get in the BSOD is SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED in Ntfs.sys.

I feel that's not a lot of information to go on.

Am I going to need to install Linux on it and then install Window 11 again?

Show thread

Curiously, my Fedora Linux Live USB is working just fine. It boots and everything. Didn't try to mount the NTFS partition on the SSD though. And it doesn't have drivers for the wifi, maybe cause it's an old version of the linux live distro I just had lying around. So, I couldn't test everything. But at least there's no problem with the RAM.

I was going to reinstall windows, that also crashes. I created a windows 11 install media on a USB drive. And when I boot from it, shortly after the install guide opens, I get a blue screen again.

My partners computer is having issues. It's a HP laptop with windows 11 but it keeps blue screening at startup and going into some auto-restore mode, then it crashes shortly after, and repeat over and over.

@hikari@social.noyu.me I still miss when YouTube allowed people to submit translated subtitles for videos. That was such a great feature.

two replies i got that i want to highlight:

• someone wished social media could crowdsource alt text, and i love this idea. i'd rather have a diverse set of interpretations than make it an all-or-nothing obligation on the original poster
• a tiny summary is better than nothing
