MY BIG worry of course is that computers are going to go the same way. They already are in fact. One only has to look at Windows. Linux works for now, but I do wonder if the big players are going to start doing eco-system lock-downs to stymie even that.

@avon_deer I don’t disagree that there will be some people who would love to be advertising into Linux but that’s always gonna be at the distro level; there’ll always be Debian and other distros that will be free of it.

@avon_deer On that note the next time we’re forced to buy a new TV we’re just going to get a monitor and have done with it.

@renbymon @avon_deer We bought a “smart” TV and have never connected it to the Internet. Playing content from our LAN or via YouTube on a PS5 has worked just fine and we don’t see any ads from the TV itself.
