@avon_deer On that note the next time we’re forced to buy a new TV we’re just going to get a monitor and have done with it.
@vulpine @renbymon @avon_deer Sadly that only works with smart appliances that are not set up to force the issue. There are reports that some appliances are now appearing that connect to 5G, whispernet, one of the cloud WiFi providers, or whatever because the manufacturer is paying for it. The only way to stop it is to open it up and cut tracks on the PCBs.
How is it legal? It's written into the licence agreement and if you don't want to ave yet another spy in your house you don't buy it. But when every manufacturer is doing, your choice is not to have the appliance.
@TundraWolf @vulpine @renbymon The only way to start truly rolling this BS back is to start getting the masses to give a shit about it like we do.
Good luck with that one
@renbymon @avon_deer We bought a “smart” TV and have never connected it to the Internet. Playing content from our LAN or via YouTube on a PS5 has worked just fine and we don’t see any ads from the TV itself.
