@TonicBH I meant to comment on this back when you posted it but forgot. The one that comes to mind for me is a version of Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) which has extra words in the chorus and, IMHO, actually scans better than what they went with.
It was only on one of the CD singles released in Europe, and I had to track that single down to be able to hear it again.
@TonicBH SO because this was the INITIAL single here in the UK this is the version I had heard for months until Americana released and I was really fucking puzzled as to the lyrics change. I don't even know if there's ever been a published reason as to 1) why it ended up on that single or 2) why it was changed for the album
@TonicBH The way I ended up finding the single again was because for every other one the B-Side is All I Want, but on this single it was No Brakes and, as these were the first two Offspring tracks I was actually aware of I kinda made a memory of it.
@renbymon I'm gonna guess the single version was initially considered the final version, but then they went back and did some vocal overdubs/edits, put that version on the album, and then had later releases of the single be just use the album version
cause when you mentioned this, I was looking at Discogs for this and noticed there's versions that use the regular title that are likely that single version, while later releases say it's the "Album Version."
@TonicBH Yeah I was just looking at that too.
This is the single that has the different chorus: https://www.discogs.com/release/891119-The-Offspring-Pretty-Fly-For-A-White-Guy
@renbymon oh god I genuinely didn't know this version exists
just replace it with the "HEY HEY DO THAT BRAND NEW THING" from the album version and you got the perfect combo
