"I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops".

~ Stephen J. Gould

Would be nice if more people knew this quote and spent some extended time thinking about it on every level.

Is there any #amputee in #London looking for left-handed gloves? I have a lot of these from over the years of buying gloves and needing only the right sides.

Definitely interested if you also happen to have right-handed gloves for me 😁

In 1951 a tiny piece of tumour was taken, without knowledge or consent, from Henrietta Lacks. The extraordinarily malignant cancer killed her, but in the lab the cells, known as HeLa, continued to live and divide, becoming the first ever functionally immortal human cell line. HeLa was used for numerous scientific advances and her cells are traded around the world for serious money; it is estimated they collectively weigh more than 50 million tons... Always amazes me when people who are in the queer community, or consider themselves an ally run Brave browser.

Brave is run by Brendan Eich, former CEO of Mozilla.

Never forget, he opposed gay marriage, and donated Prop 8 to limit marriage to heterosexuals in California. He held this belief firmly and after much outrage he resigned and then went on to form Brave.

Surely, the browser is named "Brave" because he believes he was "brave" for standing up for bigotry.

Once again for the folks in the back.

I figure I should stay the hell away from his cars and rockets.

Based on new data, I've changed my mind about the belief that "People don't change their minds based on new data."🙂🙃

My previous belief was based on the great research on the "backfire effect," done by Brendan Nyhan in 2010. But in 2020, Brendan did new research, showing that he was wrong about people not changing their minds.🙃🙂
pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.1912

He showed that presenting the right data the right way, does cause people to change their minds. This was the right data and way for me.

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! The Marriage Equality Bill has received royal endorsement and was published in the Royal Gazette, officially making #Thailand the first country in Southeast Asia to officially recognize same-sex marriage! It takes 120 days for laws to process here. In case you didn't know, I live in Thailand, my wife is Thai, and in 120 days we will be able to legally marry in Thailand, along with millions of other queer people who have waited SO LONG for this day. Love wins!! #LGBTQ

u.s. coast guard released the images of the oceangate sub and i kind of find it funny cuz it's kind of rubbing salt in the wounds to send a government submarine to take photos of an imploded libertarian submarine

@Nine Maybe just buy some low-noise fans and redo them. Not sure what type of fans are best for that, though.

Figured out the CD player in my car is so old that it doesn't like 80 minute CD-Rs, just 74 minute ones.
Kinda sucks since they're harder to source, but at least it can play burnt CDs, which I kinda figured it couldn't.

@Nine You'll still be heating your room regardless... gotta love those laws of thermodynamics

“I genuinely believe Oasis are the most damaging pop-cultural force in recent British history. It’s easy to attack them for being musically regressive: after all, they didn’t just Stop The Clocks, to quote the title of their 2006 best-of, but rewound them by 30 years. But the real problem is that they set social attitudes back even further.

It’s no coincidence that Oasis are the band of choice for flag-shaggers and Reform voters”

With Firefox having AI added in the recent update. Here's how you can disable it.

  1. Open about:config in your browser.
  2. Accept the Warning it gives.
  3. Search browser.ml and blank all values and set false where necessary as shown in the screenshot, anything that requires a numerical string can be set as 0 .

Once you restart you should no longer see the Grey-ed out checkbox checked, and the AI chatbot disabled from ever functioning.
