thoughts on darkness, long

@scarly

I implied in an earlier post that I don't think of melancholy as the same thing as darkness, and I was challenged on that point, and I think that's fair. To be honest, in my conception of darkness, melancholy is not an absent element. I just think of them as separate feelings.

For me, darkness is:

...that feeling of sitting under the moonlight, next to a trickling stream, the feeling of magic crackling in the air, a magic without morals, whispering "any wish"...

...of falling, falling, and it's the only thing that deigns to keep you company in your pain...

...a boiling storm in the distance, the wind blowing, promises of fates to come...

...and of course, of Reki so deep into her depression that no one can reach her, she just stares at the wall as the train comes for her...

I am all too familiar with the last one myself, but by this point, it's almost a familiar. The others... honestly pretty positive, IMO. For me, darkness means the gloves have come off and it's time to ignore propriety and do the necessary.

@feathers as someone that identifies very strongly with darkness, i think that these thoughts are Valid

@feathers wait tho... hold on. that was a haibane renmie reference... omg! you've seen it? it was the most beautiful....

@scarly Oh yes! Fellow Haibane fan, then? :) It is so deeply ingrained in the story of my life, I don't really know where to start. O_o

@feathers tbh, we should talk about it sometime (probably after my brain injury is better so i have full memory recall, lol), since it's similarly important to me tho i found it later

@scarly @feathers I had the pleasure of introducing Scarly to it (which was doubly enjoyable since I hadn’t seen the show in a very long time at that point)
