a single bad relationship, even a not particularly close one, can melt away years of work on self image in a single day.
if someone has an inclination to tear you down and apart, then it isn't going to be possible to reason with this and it shouldn't be your duty to forgive.
get out of and away from situations that eat into your personal worth.
at this stage in my life, i'm finding that i often have to make adjustments and set harsh boundaries simply because i don't have the same capacity for negative circumstances that i used to
it isn't that i'm particularly old, i think, but i definitely feel like i've had much more than my own share of stress, frustration, disappointment, and loss at this point. way too much
so, i may not always feel the need to take on additional potential sources of these things, because wow i'm tired
perceived or real skill in programming does not suddenly give anyone the right to forego basic empathy.
the caustic, casually denigrating culture that infests computer science has got to go. rampant toxicity, in the long run, leads to stagnation in software development, because everyone that isn't steeped in that culture gets pushed out.
Dear Ben,
It's great to hear from you. Thanks for writing.
I don't know what the fuck this means.
Thanks,
Holly
@scarly I would also like this. And then, when I get sick or just don't feel like being around people, I can disappear into my temporal vortex bedroom and come out later.
when a white person says that they're "color blind" in response to discussion about racism, they think that they're saying "i am a tolerant person."
however, what they're actually saying is "i can't see racism, so i won't acknowledge it", which is a really messed up way to look at the world
closing our eyes and putting our heads in the sand doesn't make something go away. racism is here to stay until it is acknowledged, explicitly called out by name, and strongly addressed in every community.

i'm a gay raven. sometimes a gay cat. i like technology, corvids, good stories, long walks on the beach, and destroying the patriarchy. all before breakfast.
i'm fairly antisocial but if you're interesting and nice then probably i'll be a good friend to have around.
currently in a loving relationship with a bunny and a merlin.
