i am forever disappointed that "Crystal Radios" do not actually have a big ol' crystal just soldered into the board that you can see through like some kind of magitech thing.

@squirrel apparently it was (as i literally just lookde this up mysefl! :O ) a lead crystal? Galena? Lead Sulfide or something. Nowadays it's usually through Germanium Diodes. but yeah basically the crystal is thin enough that it resonates with radio waves I guess which causes it to act as a picku pfor transmissions.
