Have you stretched recently? Do it now. It will help.

@jcarter@mastodon.social oh noooo back pain is the worst!!! if you want, i can give you some drive-by spoonie recs - askdoctorjo.com/ is a really handy website of stretches and so on, clearly presented, and she talks about modifications etc. so all levels of physical fitness can do them. if it keeps up i also highly recommend Two Old Goats cream, it's a pain relief cream that actually does something (surprisingly rare lol) and doesn't smell super obnoxious, just herb-y. feel better soon!!!

when i get back in to i should do my long threatened idea of a macro i can hit at the start of dungeons saying hello and giving people some real quick basic stretches to do while we all load in...

....and see how many dungeons i get punted out of and/or how quickly i get my πŸ‘‘ burger king crown taken away for being an awful mentor πŸ˜‚

i should really redo these but! stretches for drawing are also really useful for typing or playing computer games. these are some just real simple ones you can do at your desk (in both regular and catgirl versions)

@Jacki@radical.town i can't promise with any regularity but here's a catgirl showing you some stretches you can do at your computer easily! πŸ’–

anyway i'm sure there will be a lot of heavensturn events in showcasing eastern food, but i'm still going to simmer that idea around in my head a bit. maybe a even where it's GOOD OL' LIMSAN HOME-COOKING, SO COME EAT YOUR BLACK EYED PEAS FOR PLENTY OF HEALTH IN THE NEW YEAR. if eorzea has black eyed peas. i know there's other legumes at least and... well now y'all know why i leveled botany huh

of course that all goes a bit wonky when you look at the food history of it because so much traditional southern cuisine - soul food - is directly inherited from *slave food*, and nothing in eorzea is parallel to that. so i'm probably best left researching my usual paralells for limsa lominsan food - revolutionary era american colonial foodstuffs and victoriana (listen, mrs beeton has my fucking back ok??? you want a sample menu, you want recipes, you want techniques, SHE GOT YOU.)

case in point, i'm honestly pondering doing a mini rp event in where the bar/tearoom/cafe opens for a special new year dinner, where i can look at all of the historical traditional new year's food and represent it. okay, so it may be half research, half an excuse to serve ham, black eyed peas, and collard greens (or eorzean equivalent thereof). (with pepper hot sauce on every table ofc, i'm not a monster who would make even fictional characters eat collards without)

why do i know this stuff? a) i like domestic history, b) i'm fat and very food-motivated, c) my comfort food tv is bbc documentaries about domestic history lmao

xmas food

@envgen it's possible there's some analogue still in more northern cooking but i don't know of it off-hand. the closest christmas dessert is probably fruitcake which has been soaked with rum sometimes for weeks before serving, but we don't do any fun stuff like set it on fire or hide a coin in it to see who gets good luck.*

*over in nawlins they do have the baby in mardi gras cakes however

xmas food

@envgen alas we do not have christmas pudding and we do not set it on fire :(

over here in americaland pudding almost exclusively refers to custard, usually of the type that is 'instant'/thickened with cornstarch instead of the whole nine yards of pulling out the double boiler and so on. similar to bird's custard powder. suet puddings or boiled puddings have basically not existed here for a long time. (at least 'here' meaning 'the american south') (we do luv our banana pudding tho)

so in the mail we got this catalogue for something called 'the victorian trading company' and i'm so offended on a personal level that there are so many items i actually want to purchase in there

family-ish i guess? a question also (~ but not really neg)

@trashyfins@chomp.life i'm sorry but this means your ojou syndrome is finally revealing itself. soon every laugh will be a full-on dignity laugh where you put a hand up near your face. on the plus side you're going to look very elegant from hereon out

@Jacki@radical.town tbh i just prefer regular-ass hair elastics, or even the types that are a little closer to a scrunchie (lol) since the fabric barrier there is nice to keep it from mangling my hair. but tbh even more than that i've been really enjoying these foamy bun maker things. however i don't really wear my hair up in a ponytail, just a messy bun when i need it up, so it's that or the claw type hairclips for me.

@Jacki@radical.town oh hey i do know this, nice

they're like hair ties but apparently they stay a whole lot better. like you can put that motherfucker in there and do all sorts of shit and it won't budge.

but to be honest i think it depends a lot on your hair type. i know i haven't tried them personally because my hair is super thick and i'd have a hell of a time getting it out again. i've also heard that if you have a tender scalp or are worried about hair breakage, they can be difficult to then remove.

@Jacki@radical.town i might know this or i may be utterly clueless, but can you like show me what you mean?

facebook reminded me of this, one of my fav pics of my puppo, taken a year ago. πŸ’–
