No one can make fun of fanfiction again. Dante Alighieri is the original Mary Sue. #HotTake

Look at this shit. He writes a poem where everyone he hates is in Hell, he is fucking guided by goddamn VIRGIL, because Dante is TOTES COOL AND A GOOD WRITER. He puts his crush as the perfect women who likes him back in Heaven. HE NEVER GOT WITH BEATRICE IRL.

I never published shit like this to fanfiction dot net because I knew I'd be made fun of! Why when a grown ass man does it is it Literature?

it's time................. splatoon time..........................

@InspectorCaracal seeing how multi-level marketing is aggressively pitched these days is really depressing, because they have almost entirely found their niche in preying on vulnerable populations who are unable to hold down a full-time job and using social pressure like a cult to keep people in (as, after all, the model encourages and requires you to sell your social connections for any hope of profit)

...but yeah the acronyms get confusing lol

since the last splatfest in is upon us, in the spirit of goodwill to all, may i remind/gift everyone with this playlist i made youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAO that is full of Extreme Power.

if you define extreme power as "what majima goro listens to at the gym", which of course we do,

honestly though i have only taken one (1) entire class on the subject, growing up in a family of compsci nerds has taught me the two important qualities of any computer science student tackling a problem:

1. willingness to google what the fuck is up (and especially the Exact Error Message)

2. willingness to kluge together a solution (because if it works, it ain't stupid)

this is the internet equivalent of getting medicine in a childproof cap that's also so adultproof that to open it you had to get out your bandsaw and hack it open. i have literally broken it into working.

COMPUTERS, EVERYBODY!

so i found the more permanent solution to my keyboard woes and it is -

get this, y'all. just admire the level of idiotic choices of jury-rigging i and many others have stooped to.

- to keep windows from reinstalling the internal keyboard drivers after you uninstall them so you can use an external keyboard with your laptop, you instead tell it to turn off all the safeties and choose a driver for the internal keyboard that absolutely does not work, fooling it into obsolescence

i actually feel a bit bad because the group wasn't full of bad *people*

but it was obvious that with the average level of skill it was just not gonna happen.

so we parted fond farewells after giving it one last try, wishing each other better luck in future with 20 mins left on the clock

i will forgive them for the costuming inaccuracies though because Enormous Fucking Hoopskirts are a bit of a hazard to acting sets

@InspectorCaracal or hell they could do some really interesting writing along the lines of "yeah you thought there would be misogyny and racism but IT'S THE FRONTIER Y'ALL, AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME TO BE PICKY, here's a moral tale about some foolish assholes making their own demise therein" and then they Didn't.

it's disappointing lol

....

it DOES sound like moffat don't it lmfao,

@InspectorCaracal it's also odd to laud a heroine as "look how brave she is, being the first woman detective in the pinkertons!!" and then... not do anything much in the way of letting her show that?... like all action against her is horrifying misogyny to everyone which i'm sure was also an obstacle, but as a writer i'm just like "dang y'all this is a huge pile of missed opportunities, let your heroine encounter some obstacles and vault over them, that's your premise right???"

@InspectorCaracal honestly very valid

but it does sort of create this weird dynamic where the only racist/sexist characters are shown to be really over the top villains, and there's not really any examples of... everyday shit. it comes across a little too "well you see, we can all be assured of our own moral goodness because we're not out there pouring acid on black men so we can't be at all racist uwu", which is... annoyingly watered down gruel for the audience as far as morality goes.

re: drug mention by way of a wigglytuff kvetching about historical inaccuracies in a tv show

@wigglytuffitout civil war? so wait, the US?

yeah she should be taking laudanum

i can let a lot of the other historical inaccuracies slide because i sympathize with not wanting to constantly emulate the sexism and racism of the immediate US civil war (even if i feel a little like it's robbing the heroes of being heroic if like... you're saying your heroes are heroic for standing against it, but ....eeeeeveryone else is kinda doing the same damn thing and it's not a problem? like have them actually stand apart)

but that... that bugged me LOL

re: drug mention by way of a wigglytuff kvetching about historical inaccuracies in a tv show

@InspectorCaracal YEAH THERE'S ALSO THAT HONESTLY

but even if they had gotten it right and said morphine, like... nobody would be saying tickety boo about this shit lol. a woman who is crippled with the mental stress of memories of being a nurse in the civil war? of COURSE she's gonna have a morphine kit, and that's gonna be NORMAL as THE BEST TREATMENT BY POPULAR OPINION

anyway it irks me lol

drug mention by way of a wigglytuff kvetching about historical inaccuracies in a tv show

"i take heroin for my nerves" should not be met with universal "oh that's so bad for you... how sad that doctors still recommend this stuff and it still gets sold... smh 😔 "

NAH EVERYONE'S GONNA GO "OH OF COURSE, WHAT A GOOD TREATMENT YOU'RE ON".

COS IT'S

FUCKING

drug mention by way of a wigglytuff kvetching about historical inaccuracies in a tv show

listen i'm sure there were some people sad about it, two years after the civil fucking war ended in america, but MOST people WOULD treat it as A SAFE AND EFFICACIOUS WONDER DRUG because THAT'S HOW IT WAS THOUGHT OF AT THE TIME

at least throw me a bone and have a character objecting to it laughed off by someone as "lol what a conspiracy theory, it's not like heroin could be harmful!" then stare at the camera
