@bryn it's just such a perfect summary of how noodle dogs be
@bryn i love so much that the image caption ends with "she's not hurt or anything, just weird"
re: maybe embarrassing
@monorail srsly tho, if you wanted a base to DIY off of, aliexpress has some knockoff heeleys with LED lights that are still... substantial, but not totally bank-breaking - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2019-New-Kids-Roller-Skate-Shoes-Children-Light-up-Shoes-Glowing-Girls-Boys-Sneakers-with-Wheels/32993953010.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.154.146a72e2wS8aGt&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_4_10065_10130_10068_10890_10547_319_10546_317_10548_10545_10696_453_10084_454_10083_10618_10307_537_536_10059_10884_10887_321_322_10103,searchweb201603_52,ppcSwitch_0&algo_expid=0a1496d3-ffb7-4e26-8767-15c4664be63a-20&algo_pvid=0a1496d3-ffb7-4e26-8767-15c4664be63a
i don't know if you could preserve the LED lights - but the key functionality is the heely, well, heel, right? perhaps that mechanism could be transplanted onto other shoes? 🤔
(note: i've never owned heelies, so idk, i've got crap balance lol)
re: maybe embarrassing
@monorail extremely bougie solution: save up a stupid amount of money, present Son of Sandlar https://www.sonofsandlar.com/ bootmakers with this problem, ????, cruise through every renfair with your fucken sweet heelie boots that will be passed down in the family for the next 5 generations
re: maybe embarrassing
@monorail fug
...honestly makes me wonder about DIY shoe-cobbling tho
i mean the bits that fit over existing shoes seem exploitable, even if they only go up to men's 12, on account of straps and shit. that could be a base i think... 🤔 or if you found a pair of size 12 heeleys and then used those soles as a base...
maybe embarrassing
@monorail hmm, what's your size?
tbh sometimes it's worth looking a aliexpress for Totally Not Heely's Men's Roller Skate Sneaker, but i will admit that chinese sellers don't do much by way of larger foot sizes.
there are some things i've seen people mention that are like heely wheels but able to slip on over existing shoes? i'm not sure if they go past size 15 tho
@sashakovich ok, that makes far more sense - but honestly i feel like a 'returnship' is still a bit of a silly concept because someone launching into a new career in engineering is going to be at the exact same place to benefit
...i'm much too used to other internships that are really often pitched to not-so-STEM folks that amount to "come work for free for us in new york city for 6 months for the amazing benefit of being able to say you worked for us for free. housing credit? what's that?"
@sashakovich like ngl at first blush i'm wondering if "returnship" means "we could use more workers but people who have had jobs already don't want to be treated like shit interns... so what if we rebrand it somehow to get them to more easily accept being at that shit tier 🤔 "
@sashakovich this is likely a dumb question but
isn't a Returnship just like. hiring somebody straight-up.
like internships are typically the pre-entry-level thing of someone who is new to having a job in that field and having a job at all, that's why there's so much pressure to have interns be extremely low paid or not paid at all
....aren't most hires not in that situation people who have had jobs or even 'careers' before
@maple LMAO i saw that and i was like "ohhhh my god what utter weenie bullshit" and thus this rant
i swear "we hear you" is a pure corporate-speak phrase at this point that i cannot help but immediately mock, probably with something like that spongebob meme
