seems like i've been stuck on seafile 9 since who knows when and now they're up to version 14 and docker is a requirement. looks like upgrading / migrating will be a pain and not worth it.
nextcloud looks to do everything i want (i remember only giving up on it in favour of seafile becaue of how slow it ran on my 4th gen i5 server a decade ago) but i'm not keen on how bloated and ai-happy it looks today.
what other self-hosted file/docs cloud are people using today?
and like. the status page reports everything is fine. so why's the website down? who the fuck knows, they're probably DoS'ing themselves again with bad code
With Windows 9x Subsystem for Linux you can run all your favourite Windows and Linux apps side-by-side with a modern Linux kernel running cooperatively with the Windows kernel in ring 0. And unlike modern WSL, no hardware virtualisation is used so even your 486 can run it!
Please enjoy, I think this might be one of my greatest hacks of all time
@mavica_again I keep thinking I should start collecting scrap metal, like, old snapped bolts and screws, and start hot-gluing them into the vast hollow shells of my modern electronics just to make them feel heavier. So many mice and game controllers that might actually feel like they were worth their sticker prices.

anyone in the UK want a sony KV-E2941B trinitron crt and is willing to collect it from southampton? it doesnt turn on and displays a blink code, but there isnt anything visibly wrong inside at first glance, so im pretty sure its fixable by someone with more time than me
its got its original stand and the speakers that slot on the sides and top. not sure we have the remote but i think we have a spare sony remote that might work with it
i have to get rid of it by mid-june else it goes in the tip so im really hoping someone will save it lol

sad to report, very belatedly, that game artist and designer Carolly Hauksdottir passed away unexpectedly after a brief hospitalization in 2023.
if you don't recognize the name, it's because Carolly wasn't an industry celeb. but if you played 90s graphical adventure and puzzle games, you probably played something she had worked on, like King's Quest IV, Inherit the Earth, Ishido, Ultima Underworld II, or Kasparov's Gambit.
Carolly had a lifelong relationship with the scifi and fantasy scene in california. if you lived in the Berkeley area, you will have seen her art if you ever visited the Other Change of Hobbit bookstore: she drew the best logo they ever had.
she was also the person who introduced Ken Williams to Lori and Corey Cole, whom she knew from the local scifi/fantasy/rpg scene. without that key introduction, we would never have received the Quest for Glory series.
RIP Carolly.
He/him. Puzzle-Adventure Hybrid with RPG Elements. Supports 3D Acceleration. He Is Essentially What He Believes. Just in case, π, LGBTQ+ π, DOS π, ππ©π.
