Sadly the freeware release at www.amuletsandarmor.com fixes my other favorite bug in the game: you can no longer scoot your corpse around while dead by using mouse movement. But the other important fix (death no longer makes you drop your entire inventory) makes the game so much less annoying to play, so that's worth it.

Downloaded a copy of my favorite "Ultima Underworld on a cheesier engine by indie devs in the late 90s" game, Amulets & Armor, and for some reason created an Archer.

Then the ol' muscle memory kicked in and I remembered how to fire crossbow bolts really, really, really fast. Oh joyous little game.

there is one upside to how YouTube works, when people post video tutorials - if they're talking, you don't have to actually watch the video. Pop up the Transcript window and you can read at a glance to see if they're actually going to say what you need to do. If they don't, well, you just saved yourself from ten minutes of preamble.

13 years ago, I scanned every type of video game media I could find for a PCWorld feature. The original PCW link now has broken images, but I combined most of the slides into one image for fun

See if you can name 'em all!

This is one of my favorite Amiga computer tracks by our game team's music composer Ramon Braumuller.

As a youngster, somewhere around 1990, I asked Ramon to try and squeeze the most out of the Amiga's four audio channels, and he delivered this track. โค๏ธ

Every study ever: Overworked employees are less productive. Employees who work from home are just as productive as employees who work in the office. The evidence is indisputable.

Managers: I see. But I have a hunch that the complete opposite is true.

This isn't some currsed photoshop or a hack job - this is a real USB to TRRS (tip, ring, ring, sleeve) cable that came with a real product in the year 2000. The InterAct GoPad FX was a portable pad intended for laptops; there's an unnecessarily over-engineered socket and slot for that removable cable to slip into. USB Micro-B was still years away, Bluetooth was barely a thing, and any other wireless solution would be too bulky, so they chose an existing low-cost connector for the job - TRRS!

Owning a 3D printer in the vintage computing hobby is absolutely life changing. You go from being surrounded by a massive disorganized pile of old machines, to being surrounded by a massive disorganize pile of old machines, but none of them are missing port covers anymore.

Are you familiar with the notion that accessibility improves the experience of something for everyone, not just for people with disabilities? I thought of it again today when I saw the below pic posted by @vaurora with the caption โ€˜New gender just droppedโ€™. And, like, Iโ€™ve seen a hundred of these, some amusing mistakes, some practical, but this one really resonated. Shared it with a gender-non-conforming friend who loved it, _but so do I_. Iโ€™m very comfortably cis, but _Iโ€™d_ choose that option.
