every once in a while i stumble across a great DS title at a thrift store
today’s find was Club House Games - a relatively early title that took advantage of the DS’s architecture
one criminally underrated and underused DS feature is “single card download play” - which lets you play against other DS players who *do not* a copy of the card themselves. it wirelessly transmits the game to them for ad hoc competitions.
i love that the first owner of this bought it at a local Zellers. 😎 how i miss your vinyl offgassing shoe aisles and $3 PC bargain bins
I've been away from the Doom community for over a year now, so it floored me to learn that my mod from 2012, "Weasel Presents: Terrorists", was awarded a "Missed Cacoward" for this year's Cacowards at Doomworld. No joke, I cried.
Looking back over it, I decided the mod isn't very easy to download as a raw Github repo, so I uploaded a "release" build and also posted it to itch as a pay-what-you-want with a nice page and all that. https://wildweasel.itch.io/terrorists
low-resolution blood, bleeding from the eye (Doom PWAD textmode end screen)
To celebrate #Doom's 31st anniversary, here's the ENDOOM (#textmode end screen) I did in 2023 for "Perdition's Gate Resurgence", a PWAD with an Ancient Egypt theme that, as of this writing, is almost done. You can find the development thread here on Doomworld: https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/94851-perditions-gate-resurgence-alpha-available-for-testing/

It has always blown my mind how Pinball Fantasies is able to play music and sound effects through a PC speaker (no sound card).
in february 2000, Be announced it was releasing its BeOS operating system for free.
here is the website around the free launch. i sure do miss that swoopy web design aesthetic with handcrafted nav icons and lighting effects.

Thanks to some hot tips here from Misty De Méo of cdrom.ca - I have added the Pioneer LaserActive's two game PACs, and a handful of other things, to the No Golf List. https://netizen.club/~wildweasel/nogolflist.html
Sharp X68000's Human68k operating system has the most pleasant background colour for its desktop. instead of going with harsh (255, 255, 255) white, it uses a much more pleasant off-white (208, 192, 176) that comes from the orange segment of the palette.
A version of Missile Command for the Commodore 64 where the bottom of your screen is the game state in memory and missiles cause memory corruption, which eventually causes you to lose: https://csdb.dk/release/?id=135463.
In the video below, a missile broke my controls and caused my cursor to move down and to the left so I couldn't stop other missiles.
it's fascinating how more boring, less creative and interactive, computing has been for the past 20 years. we used to be able to do this sort of thing (send quick doodles without having to open up 2-3 separate programs) in MSN messenger for crying out loud. now we're pocketing supercomputers that can barely open up and share an image without going through contrived pipelines
