I just bought another one, Squeakross by @LukaTheMouse, and this is why I still haven't finished Princess Farmer, Kitsune Tails, Quantum Witch, Blobun, any of the cool games made by Fedi people, I haven't even finished Improbable Island yet and I'm probably not gonna because the creator is a dick but anyway back to Squeakross, it's a nonogram game (like Mario's Picross) paired with a house-decorating doofer and first of all the game itself is a joy to play but secondly holy shit the coats of lacquer this guy's brushed onto this, like whoa, you can see your face in it. Polish upon polish upon polish

Dear FediMind, I have a question for you: Does anyone know the name of a mid to late 1980โ€™s french sci-fi movie I remember seeing on TV? I remember it was set in the future, probably WW3. It followed the crew of a tank or some kind of similar vehicle with a crew of 4-6 persons. The whole movie was shot inside the tank, even the scenes in which some action happened outside. Iโ€™ve searched everywhere online but can't seem to find any trace of it. (1/2)

Also, the previous release got rolled back because the emscripten version was broken, so this release is the debut of some features that got held back.

The biggest of which is that the game is now playable on mobile! You can install it as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on Android machines, and there are touch screen controls that pop up.

btw, if you want a cheap computer:

ex-corporate kit on eBay is a goldmine. desktops, laptops. reasonably powerful desktops are SO CHEAP. many vendors with a 6mo warranty too.

(if you want usable graphics, business PCs with AMD chips have Ryzen graphics and not the Intel rubbish.)

My cold got better in the evening, so I finished editing the article about reverse-engineering a rare but historically important operating system VisiCorp VisiOn. A ~10,000 word long write-up is accompanied by the first-ever third-party application for Visi On, developed by my fiancรฉe Atsuko.

Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life, because nobody is hiring for that.

netizen.club/~wildweasel/updat - I have Learned Things, today; among those things is that my dad rarely gets rid of anything. Those things, and a handful of amusing other ones, join the words "mashie niblick" and "brassie" in this month's Golfshrine Acquisitions Update.

What I'm listening to today: "mode 1", StereoMan

Some more 1997 sample tracker music. A lot going on in this and just a lot of satisfying sounds. A kind of crashing silverware-on-glassware percussion, beats like some 90s dance act I can't place, and a bunch of synth sounds that give me a feeling like the composer listened to Incunabula/Amber-era Autechre and was like "what if I tried to make something sounding like this but more dance-y?".

This AT&T demo diskette was discovered in a large box of unsorted floppies. The instructions are for running it on a 3B2 computer which we have running as โ€œlcm3b2โ€ and is remotely accessible. Would you like to know what is on this diskette? #retrocomputing #vintagecomputing #floppydisk #unix

This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.

TL;DR: the poverty line in the US for a family of four with two young children is about $140,000, and there isn't much improvement in quality of life between $40K and $100K.

Fun stuff: VisiOn kernel has a memory-leak. Clicking the menu ~200 times in any app results in running out of memory, and eventually the system crashes. The easiest way to replicate the bug is to press "Esc" down (it will send the Escape key event over and over); it won't even do anything, just redraw the menu.

:D Please, don't let me fix a 42-year-old bug in an OS :D
