worldbuilds, european-ish fantasy, breaking expectations

For dwi~ (a language I'm making) I decided that the language is spoken in a European country that is only sometimes there, and can only be accessed through foggy forests at night.

It's going to have dwarves and kobolds and gremlins and humans - but it's not going to have elves, or magic, or dragons

I'm wondering what else I can do to make it feel less... generic?

@lizardsquid just don't base it on latin

Far too many fictional languages are based on latin

@troubleMoney it's not based on latin!

except! writing was brought to the country by accident, by latin speakers, and the speakers of dwi~ decided that they should invent their own alphabet!

it looks like this: computerfairi.es/media/JqANSm0

@lizardsquid huh, cool mish-mash of latin and runes and some other stuff I don't recognise, nice

@lizardsquid
ooooh, I love places that only sometimes exist
This sounds neat

@lizardsquid you could have the country "stuck" in some date in the past that breaks the generics. Say 1789 so the goblins won't be living in fantasy medieval Europe but also not modern. If that makes any sense.
