I want to make a group chat, but I don't like discord and other people don't like telegram

so maybe IRC?

I don't know how to run an IRC thing

I wonder if I can link an IRC thing to an XMPP thing to a telegram thing?

🤔

IM thoughts

I'm either going to use IRC, telegram, XMPP, or make a forum

* I don't want multiple channel chat, because that's a forum but worse
* IRC is good because people don't need accounts to connect, and can just switch to a different username whenever, but is bad because it's overwhelming to beginners
* telegram has the best client, imo, but people don't like it and I don't like the security implications of connecting your number
* xmpp is nice but basically unknown so no-one would join

@lizardsquid if you want something slack/discord-y then I've heard good things about mattermost

current hotness in IRC-like things is matrix as far as I know

@troubleMoney eh, my problem with discord is that I think a lot of it would work better as a forum

... :thinkhappy:

.... maybe I should run a forum instead

@lizardsquid forums are pretty dang cool

or a BBS!

or a shared server everyone can ssh into and use wall like on the tilde.town thingy!

@lizardsquid pick a server, make a room, done.

making your own server is a lot harder though.

IM thoughts

@SilviaFox oh yeah, I'm just wanting to make my own chat room for people to come talk in, but I don't like discord for those

@lizardsquid I see no reason you couldn't but that sounds like a huge mess of a crosslink

@Felthry yeah it woould be a lot of work for like... the 10 people who would join a group chat with me
