@mynameistillian If people saw that no politician cares about who donates and why, they would probably stop. Harris doesn't need Mastodon, she has Biden's money + the companies donating to her. The people here do.

#MastosonForHarris kind of proves that liberals prefer anyone in a suit and tie over the fellow citizens and neighbors who need more help. They'd give money hand over fist for a company who's asking for help before considering feeding a family.

I just want those who -do- have spare money in #mastodon4harris and #mastodonForHarris to take a step back from feeling big emotions at the poor crowding the tag seeking help and consider this one thing:

i actually sat down and caculated all mutual aid posts that i could find in the span of one hour of scrolling the hash

and the total number of money that would be needed to solve all of them would be around $100k, plus-minus 50k more.

that's less than half what was donated to harris. in mere DAYS.

this is what angers me the most - our pain is completely unnecessary, it's solvable, but it is manufactured by indifference, hubris and bigotry.

i need people to seriously understand that if you manage to raise 500,000 USD for a political donation, you will be doing massively more good in many ways if you just give that money away, in 1000 to 2000 usd blocks to people who are homeless and need to make a deposit on housing, there is no political donation that will ever do remotely as much good as helping one homeless person get a warm place to sleep #mastodon4harris

hey, new day new post, normally i do one and then update that but with the #MastodonForHarris tag being as big as it is, it wont be seen.

you have all seen everyone's angry posts by now. i dont need to do another. i had some glib moments im proud of, and others have written far better takedowns than i ever could. so this is my update on my status as one of the trans people you could be helping directly.

i have done... three? four? posts so far, and received $230, more than i got from #mutualaid in the rest of this month combined, and i am so thankful to all who have helped. i appreciate you so much.

i am a trans woman in indiana who was fired eleven months ago for being trans. i have been job searching intensely for the entire time, but no one wants to hire a trans. my immediate need is to sustain my family, but once i am employed, all my focus will go toward saving to flee this red state. all i ask is for help to keep my job search going; i cant do it while homeless.

my family (disabled spouse and two dogs) cannot make our rent this month. we have a number of other expenses as well, but those payments can be late. if we wanted to pay everything, i would be asking for two thousand. but im not. i just want rent. i just want to stay here so i can keep trying to get a job and pay this myself.

i'm at 230/1200.
